How We Began

Be The Bush & Miriam House executive director & founder, Pastor Caleb McCall, is a graduate of Adult & Teen Challenge North Central Virginia. Before entering the program Pastor Caleb lived a life of crime and addiction. He lived this way for years until eventually Pastor Caleb was at the end of himself. He was desperate for change and broke on the inside. Pastor Caleb began to attend a local church in his hometown of Manchester, Tennessee.

Due to a series of events that included possible jail time, the Pastor of the church suggested that Pastor Caleb enter a faith-based recovery program. At the time there weren't any local programs in Caleb’s area. His pastor then connected him to the Adult & Teen Challenge of North Central Virginia.

Pastor Caleb entered the program and over the course of a year his life was radically changed through a relationship with Jesus Christ and by being discipled through the Bible.

After graduation, Pastor Caleb returned home to Manchester. He knew his community needed more resources to combat the drug epidemic that is destroying families. God placed a dream in Pastor Caleb’s heart to open a recovery center for men in his hometown. In September of 2018, Be The Bush Recovery Ministry was born. The motto behind the name of the program is that if God can use a bush to speak, he can use a recovered addict. Since the doors of Be The Bush (also known as BTB) have opened we have seen many souls saved and lives changed. Men becoming the men they where destined to be before addiction and dysfunction entered their lives.

About a year later Pastor Caleb was in a church service at his home church when he witnessed a young woman in crisis. She was crying out in desperation because she was in bondage to methamphetamine. The young woman’s mother was also a known drug user. This was a generational pattern of dysfunction. God began to speak to Pastor Caleb’s heart again about the severity of the drug epidemic in his community. This time the Lord gave instruction for Pastor Caleb to open a women’s program.

Pastor Caleb began to pray and seek the Lord about who he could partner with to lead this program. After much prayer and consideration, he had two women that he thought would be a great fit to get the women’s center up and running. In 2018 Pastor Caleb had met Ms. Tasha Hill at a prayer meeting. Ms. Hill also had a testimony of being radically delivered from addiction and dysfunction by the power of God. She was also known for being a leader in the “recovery community.”

Pastor Caleb Approached Ms. Hill with an offer for her to come on as director of this women’s program. She gladly accepted. Unbeknownst to Caleb, Ms. Hill had been in preparation to develop and open a women’s recovery facility. God had been preparing her for the position as director all along! This was confirmation for them both that they were walking into a God ordained partnership. The next position that needed to be filled was
“facility supervisor”. The person in this position would be living at the facility with the students. Pastor Caleb had a woman in mind named Ashley Trimue. Pastor Caleb had known Ms, Trimue for years. She also had a history of addiction and a
testimony of being set free from addiction by an encounter with Jesus. Pastor Caleb had actually helped Ms.Trimue get into a program in Nashville. Ms. Trimue successfully completed the program and was on fire for God.

Pastor Caleb reached out to Ms. Trimue and shared with her all that God had laid on his heart about opening a program to help women in their hometown. Ms. Trimue was also passionate about seeing people set free from the bondages of addiction through the power of Jesus Christ. She knew without a doubt that she was meant to be part of pioneering this women’s program. Ms. Trimue accepted the position and has since played a major role in establishing the program.

Miriam House opened its doors April 15, 2020. Amidst a global pandemic, when it seemed the whole world was shutting down, Miriam House has thrived and grown. Since the opening of Miriam House, we have witnessed countless success stories in the lives of these women. Some of these victories include women being restored to their children, women going to college, women becoming homeowners, women becoming healthy, productive members of society, and women going back into their regions sharing the hope of freedom from addiction.
